When it comes to eating healthy a lot of people have no idea what eating healthy actually means. When asked what is healthy, people will often respond with apples, broccoli, vitamin water, diet soda, milk. Almost everyone knows and are right about fruit and vegetables being healthy but after that a lot of their answers are usually wrong.
Vitamin water for example is really nothing more that sugar water with added vitamins. Diet soda provides no benefits to your body, has been linked to cancer, and recent studies show that it also leads to weight gain. Milk is also a very tricky one, it does provide some benefits to your body, but according to recent studies the negatives far outweigh the positives on this one. Contrary to the commercials you may see on TV, you can be perfectly healthy without ever drinking milk. Milk has also been linked to autism and other serious health issues recently.
When it comes to eating healthy it is always recommended that you do some research on your own or take a nutrition class, however there are a few basics that everyone can follow. You can never really go wrong with fruits and vegetables and when eating these as with any food you should try to stick with organically grown produce at all costs. There are many reasons for this however one of the main reasons is that non-organic food is grown with manmade chemicals that are absorbed by the food, which is then absorbed by your body, you do not want this.
Meats are also fine to eat, obviously you do not want to overdo it, and try to stick with chicken or wild fish as your staple food. Beef is also fine, but try to stick with a lean cut and away from fatty burgers. Also try to stay away from processed meats like salami and sausages, they contain a lot of additives that you do not need.
When trying to eat healthy think about how humans originally ate. The obesity epidemic is a relatively new issue and when civilizations first started they did not have this issue. Sure they had other issues with their food, such as sanitary and storing issues but what they were eating was often times healthy. They were not guzzling down sodas, they drank pretty much only water. Cutting out soda alone can cut back on thousand of calories a week and even in a day for some people as well as make you feel more energized and less lethargic.
Do you really know what is healthy?
