Healthy eating and nutrition play a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Following are some ideas on how you can incorporate different types of healthy snacks in your daily diet without increasing the risk of weight gain.

Crunchy Snacks:
• Air-popped popcorn or rice cakes
• Pretzels with or without honey mustard dip
• Baked tortilla chips with salsa

Fruit And Veggie Snacks:
• Fruit salads
• Sliced strawberries with fat-free topping
• Raw veggies with ranch seasoning and fat-free sour cream dip
• Frozen grapes or bananas

Dairy:
• String cheese
• Light yogurt
• Low-fat chocolate milk
• Buttermilk
• Cottage cheese with canned pineapple

Drinks:
• Banana-chocolate milkshake containing fat-free milk, banana and a squeeze of chocolate syrup
• Orange whip containing orange juice and orange non-fat yogurt
• Light root beer float containing diet root beer and low-fat ice cream
• Steaming cup of fat-free hot chocolate/cocoa with added calcium
• Different types of delicious fruit smoothies

Sweets:
• Whole wheat fig bars
• Low-fat graham crackers spread with 1 T. chocolate frosting
• 2-3 Hershey's kisses as a small treat throughout the day

• A glass of low-fat milk

If you want to continue with your healthy food habits, then add a variety of healthy foods to your daily diet. Plan your meals well in advance and go food shopping before the week starts. You don't need to avoid your favorite food items completely. You can occasionally treat yourself with your favorite foods; otherwise, you will feel deprived and you might discontinue your healthy food habits.

You can have small portions of your favorite foods and can still maintain healthy eating and nutrition.
