The fact revealed that it is the past two decades both children and adults have followed some medications to treat their ongoing symptoms of ADHD or ADD, otherwise called as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder. In an attempt to mange these conditions, they usually choose Adderall and RItalin. Both have received a fair amount of praise for their efforts as well as some backlash for being stimulants that are now routinely given to children and for those who are not fond of treating their child's condition with medication.

Some have their own theories on these medications that they are a direct reflection of a child not reaching their fullest height potential, that they do not sleep well, the children have been found to be underweight and somewhat in a daze when on these medications. Most families that place their children on such medications are well aware of the reactions it can cause prior to giving it to them, and in some cases the parents feel the side effects their little ones experience outweigh the adverse symptoms the children endure while they struggle daily with their ailment.

For the parents that would rather consider any alternatives before they have to resort to medicating their kids, there are a few tricks that may be successful in your home to avoid the chemical treatment path. Making specific requests and providing a reward system that your child can have input on creating is a great option. This allows the child to help make their own goals and their treats they already they like. They also may be rather responsive to various types of therapy treatments that are available inside or outside the home. If you think your child may be more receptive to treatment from their own home, then work closely with the therapists in your area that offer those services.

The biggest issue these children face is attempting to follow steps or directions on their own without additional instruction or assistance from beginning to end. Many parents find it to be quite useful to make charts for their little ones to follow or ones with pictures that clearly state the steps of each task until the child can graduate to completing the tasks on their own. For older children and teenagers, leaving notes or reminders of any kind may be just what they need to get through the day without any need for medication or therapies of any sort. It is going to depend on the child, their age and how many parts of the day they can achieve without any assistance or with very limited help as to which techniques you may have the most success with for your child. Try each one and do not push one technique on them if they seem to be extremely against it, or just plain unresponsive. You may be surprised to find that they can do many activities without the need for any type of medication at all.
