Top 5 Causes For Hair Loss In Women

in Health

Hair has always represented not only youth and health but also sex appeal and beauty. That’s why almost all women spend lots of money buying hair products only to have full, long, shiny hair. However, many women fail to do this because they experience hair loss, which makes them less beautiful.

Hair loss can occur for a number of different reasons and following are top 5 causes for the hair loss in women.

1. Nutritional deficiencies

The essential vitamins and minerals play a key role in ensuring good health all throughout your body, including your hair. If you don’t get enough these nutrients, your hair will not be healthy. Iron and protein deficiencies are two of the most common nutritional triggers for hair loss. If you have low levels of iron, you may suffer from hair loss, from thinning hair to patches of baldness. If you lack of protein, your body will shut down hair growth. Besides, low levels of vitamin B are another correctible cause of hair loss.

2. Stress

Both physical stress and emotional stress can cause hair loss. They inhibit Androgen production which shrink hair follicles. Physical stress, like a car accident, can shock the hair cycle and trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. Meanwhile, significant emotional stress, like the death of a loved one, can also disrupt the normal cycle of hair growth. However, emotional stress won't actually precipitate the hair loss, it will exacerbate a problem that's already there.

3. Excessive styling

Over-styling and hair treatments over the years can actually trigger significant damage and breakage to your strands, which in turn results in hair loss and thinning hair. Shampooing, dyeing, blow-drying and using heated styling tools can cause your hair to fall out and lead to hair loss. Tight braids, hair weaves or corn rows also contribute to harm your tresses. All of these practices can actually affect the hair root, so your hair might not grow back.

4. Heredity

Heredity is the most common cause of hair loss. So if you come from a family where women started to have hair loss at a certain age, you might be more prone to it. The gene can be inherited from either your mother's or father's side of the family. In female, hair loss that is genetic is known as androgenetic alopecia, and it is basically the female version of male pattern baldness.

5. After childbirth

Hormonal imbalances can lead to hair loss, especially the wildly fluctuating hormones that occur following pregnancy and childbirth. However, the hair loss is only temporary, and your strands will grow back shortly after you give birth and after breastfeeding is all over.
